Why do the math facts only cover 3-9?

1, 2 and 10 facts are simple for most students to learn.    Our goal is to help students learn the facts that tend to be the hardest to commit to memory.

What about subtraction and division?

The beauty of the InstructMe  system is that you only need to buy ONE set of cards for either addition or multiplication.   By the time all of the cards in a set are mastered, the student will know the number bond, thereby making subtraction and division cards unnecessary.

My student is saying the fact from the bottom up and the top down. Is this okay?

The student will preferably say all of the cards in the same manner.   Such as 9x3 = 27

They may say, 9 times 3 is 27 or 3 times 9 is 27.    On occasion some students will use both ways.   Encourage them to say them consistently in the same order.   If they continue to say some the opposite way but seem to be grasping the facts, do not fret about it and carry on.

How do I use surprise images and why bother?

We suggest after you and your student are in a rhythm with the cards, add in surprise images for fun.   They break up the monotony, make the student happy and more importantly, they train the volume of information the brain can receive in a fraction of a second.    Examples of where to get these images might include; pictures from a magazine, junk mail, greeting card, post card...

Occasionally, you may want to surprise them by turning a card on it's side.

How long and often should we use the InstructMe math fact system?

Typically we set a time for 10 minutes.     To master the facts faster, flash the cards up to 2 times per day.   Most students will increase their math fact memorization in about 7-10 days with daily use.
